HAWAII VEHICLE SHIPPING - TOP SERVICES

Hawaii auto transport has its specifics and here we will discuss them all. First, you will be shipping the vehicle from either port of Long Beach (that is Los Angeles), port of Oakland, Seattle or port of San Diego.

Now, generally speaking there are two scenarios when shipping cars to or from Hawaii:

IF YOU’RE LOCATED NEAR SEATTLE, OAKLAND, LOS ANGELES OR SAN DIEGO

You can drop off your vehicle at the port or arrange for a driver to pickup your vehicle.

IF YOU’RE ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY

The transportation will happen in two stages:

  1. First Stage: In the first state your vehicle will go on a car carrier from your home or office to the port.

  2. Second Stage: Second stage is the loading of your vehicle on the vessel going to Hawaii.

  • The port Shipping / Booking Number
  • Government-Issued Photo Identification
  • Title, Registration, or Insurance Card showing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle being shipped

The person listed on the port Shipping / Booking Number form must be the same person dropping off the vehicle at the port. Additionally, if the person dropping off the vehicle is not the vehicle’s legal owner / the person on the title document, they must provide the port with a notarized letter from the owner permitting them to drop off the vehicle with the port for shipping to Hawaii.

However, when a vehicle is shipped FROM Hawaii to the mainland, owners must provide the following paperwork:

  • If the vehicle is financed or a lease, the drop-off party must have a letter from the lien holder releasing the vehicle for transportation to the mainland on official letterhead and this must be notarized. Key Factors Impacting Your Hawaii Car Shipping Cost

  • Distance: The shipping distance from the mainland to Hawaii affects the cost. The distance between your departure and destination ports is a major determinant of the overall shipping cost.
  • Departure Port: The specific port you choose on the mainland can influence pricing.
  • Vehicle Type: The size, weight, and condition of your vehicle are considered and significantly influence the shipping cost. Larger and heavier vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs, require more resources and space, leading to higher transportation expenses compared to standard cars. This is an important factor to consider when budgeting for your car shipment.
  • Shipping Method: Open transport is generally more cost-effective than enclosed transport.
  • Market Conditions: Prices can vary based on supply and demand in the shipping industry.
  • Location: Shipping from the West Coast is usually cheaper due to the shorter distance.
  • Additional Services: Factors like door-to-door delivery and express shipping can add to the cost.
  • Delivery Method: Car shipping companies offer different delivery options, including door-to-door and terminal-to-terminal service. Door-to-door delivery is convenient as it transports your vehicle directly to your specified location. However, this option may be more expensive and less widely available compared to terminal-to-terminal service, where you drop off and pick up your vehicle at designated terminals.
  • Seasonal Demand: Car shipping experiences seasonal fluctuations in demand, which can impact pricing. High-demand periods, such as during the summer or major holidays, may result in increased prices. Planning your vehicle shipment during off-peak seasons can potentially lead to more favorable rates and availability. The cost to ship a car to Hawaii can be affected by supply and demand, so book your Hawaii car transport as early as possible.
  • Reservation Period: If you want to get your vehicle shipped affordably and feasibly, you may benefit from making a reservation a couple of months before your vehicle’s shipment. It is a lot more difficult for the service providers to book a carrier for shipping your car on short notice than the case in which you give them an ample amount of time. If you want to save money while shipping your vehicle, you need to book ahead of time to guarantee that you don’t have to make a higher payment. If you book for shipping your car as far in advance as possible, you will be able to save a lot more about the cost of shipping. Shipment providers always tend to offer you with most cost-effective solutions if you give them an ample window of time before the date of shipping. This is because it allows them to quickly find a carrier for shipping without paying any additional overheads related to late booking.
  • Price of Fuel: The price of gas will also affect the cost of shipping your vehicle. The price of gas tends to be higher in the summer season as compared to winter. This also plays a role in the higher cost of shipping that can be incurred during the summer months compared to winter. Additionally, during fluctuations in the oil price in the world market, you may have to pay a larger fee for shipping your vehicle.
  • The number of trucks running your route: This is an important factor our logistics coordinators track daily. Our team tracks truck availability fluctuations daily and quotes current prices that will ship any vehicle in a timely manner.
  • The ports with all their custom and import requirements: Then each country, and often each port, have specific requirements for custom clearance and import of vehicles with their own fees.
  • Vehicle operability: Shipping an inoperable vehicle involves more loading and unloading efforts and is therefore more expensive than transporting a running car.
  • Route: Different from distance, route refers to what highways and other roads will be traveled to transport the vehicle. Routes in highly populated areas may have increased traffic congestion, which could impact transport time and shipping costs. Additional route considerations that can be factored into shipping costs include:
    • Physical road conditions
    • Adverse weather
    • Road construction
    • Crossing bridges

By considering these key factors and understanding their influence on car shipping costs, you can make well-informed decisions and effectively plan your budget for a smooth and successful vehicle transportation experience. Those shipping from 50 miles or less from the port can save money by dropping off or picking up their vehicle at the port to avoid ground transport fees.

Tips For Hawaii Car Shipping Services

  • Compare rates between open and enclosed shipping. Open transport is more affordable for most vehicles.
  • Be flexible on exact pickup/delivery dates when possible. Mid-week shipping is often cheaper.
  • Select port-to-port shipping if feasible to lower costs.
  • Ask about Seasonal Specials when getting a quote to maximize savings.
  • Make sure that you make a reservation a few months ahead of the shipping date and during the off-season. This will help you save a massive amount of money as you won’t have to pay large sums of money due to high demand or express shipping requirements.
  • Those shipping from 50 miles or less from the port can save money by dropping off or picking up their vehicle at the port to avoid ground transport fees.
  • Schedule your pick-up at least a month in advance – If you schedule your auto shipment as far in advance as possible, you will maximize the chances that you can get a slightly lower price. Carriers tend to charge a bit more when they are given little notice about a shipment.
  • Ship with standard open-air transport – Ship your car using a standard open-air carrier without choosing top-load or expedited shipping. Any upgrade options that you choose will cost additional fees.
  • Don’t bother shipping anything in your car – Some car carriers out there will allow you to ship some personal items in your car for an additional fee. You should just forget this option for now. Plus, if any of those items get lost or damaged, your car shipping coverage will not cover their cost as previously mentioned.

Taking advantage of these savings opportunities allows you to ship vehicles conveniently and affordably to or from Hawaii. The logistics experts at RoadRunner Auto Transport provide fair, customized quotes tailored to your specific requirements.

Choosing a Shipping Method

When it comes to shipping a car from Hawaii to the mainland, there are two main options available: roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) and container shipping. RoRo shipping is the most popular and cost-effective method, where the vehicle is driven onto a ship and secured to the deck. This option is ideal for standard vehicles that are in good condition and don’t require additional protection during transport. Container shipping is a more expensive option, but it offers additional protection as the car is placed inside a container for the duration of the journey. This option is ideal for high-end or classic vehicles, as well as cars that need to be transported with personal items or oversized cargo. The rates are higher by 30% to 40% because of the extra level of protection. When choosing a shipping method, consider the value of your vehicle, the distance between ports, and any additional services you may require. It’s important to work with a reputable car shipping company that can provide guidance on the best shipping method for your needs.

Reservation Information for Port

The following information is required for us to secure a shipping reservation number through Matson; there are no exceptions:

  • Vehicle Year, Make, Model, and Color
  • Vehicle Identification Number / VIN
  • License Plate Number
  • The Name and Contact Number(s) of the Owner and Person who will be dropping off the vehicle at the port

How Far in Advance Should I Book My Service?

When shipping a car to Hawaii it is advised that you schedule your shipment within a month of the planned moving date. The earlier you book the better, however, this cannot guarantee a price. Auto transport is an industry that very much depends on supply and demand fluctuations. A price can be guaranteed only for about 30 days, although usually within continental US prices are guaranteed only for a week. With shipping to Hawaii however, booking in advance is desirable and thus pricing is different. Call for more details and to discuss your shipment and budget.

If you notice your vehicle is dusty when it reaches its destination, we’ve got you covered. We’re happy to offer our Clean Car Guarantee to fix this. After your vehicle arrives, you can get it washed, on us! It’s our way of ensuring your car arrives in a clean condition.

Please note that Landry Transportation and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for any personal items left inside the vehicle during transport. Delivery Time Estimate Guide:

  • 100-500 miles takes 1 or 2 days
  • 500-1000 miles takes 2 or 3 days
  • 1000-1500 miles takes 3 or 4 days
  • 1500-2000 miles takes 4 or 5 days
  • 2000-2500 miles takes 5 or 6 days
  • 2500-3000+ miles takes 7 to 9 days

Depending on the distance, weather conditions, and population centers, it could be a few days or a week until a vehicle reaches its destination. The carriers usually estimate about 8-9 days on coast-to-coast trips, but they frequently arrive earlier.

A few things that we consider when telling you how much it will cost to ship your car are the mileage between where your vehicle is and its destination, the type of car being shipped, and the time of year. The last one is important because prices change depending on how busy it is for cars to be transported.

Rates are subject to change, depending on the weather, route demands, and national holidays. It will have an impact on intrastate shipments since gas prices in certain states are extremely high. Each quotation is based on the season and current rates for pick-up/drop-off locations.

There are also more choices, such as enclosed carriers, top-load service, and fast delivery, which can be added to your order at the time of booking for a higher level of service.

To provide you with an accurate and competitive quote, we take into account these variables and tailor our pricing to your specific needs. You can request a quote through our website or by reaching out to our customer service team. Rest assured that our commitment to transparency ensures that you’re fully aware of the costs involved before making any decisions.

Top-load service involves loading your vehicle onto the upper deck of an open auto transport trailer. This method is preferred due to its superior protection. Unlike vehicles on the lower level that might be exposed to liquid seepage from cars above, top-load service minimizes such risks.

Please note that while we offer top-load service for added security, additional charges may apply. Your peace of mind is our priority, and we’re here to ensure your vehicle’s safe and worry-free journey.

The type of truck used to transport your car depends on the service you choose:

  • Open Transport: Your vehicle will be loaded onto an open trailer, similar to those you see transporting multiple cars on highways.
  • Enclosed Transport: We use enclosed trailers equipped with walls and a roof to provide extra protection for high-value or delicate vehicles.
  • Heavy Haul Transport: We use heavy haul trailers for oversized vehicles/equipment that can’t be shipped on a traditional car carrier.

Our carriers meet industry standards and maintain the required insurance coverage to ensure your vehicle’s safety during transit. Rest assured that regardless of the type of truck used, your vehicle will be handled with care and expertise.

We offer a range of vehicle shipping services to cater to your specific needs:

  • Open Transport: This cost-effective option involves transporting your vehicle on an open trailer, suitable for most cars.
  • Enclosed Transport: For added protection, we provide enclosed trailers that shield your vehicle from the elements and road debris. Ideal for luxury, classic, or delicate vehicles.
  • Inoperable Vehicle Transport: Our specialized service accommodates non-running vehicles, ensuring safe handling and transport.
  • Expedited Shipping: When time is of the essence, choose our expedited service for quicker delivery.
  • Door-to-Door Transport: We pick up and deliver your vehicle to your chosen locations, providing maximum convenience.
  • Military Vehicle Transport: Serving our military personnel with specialized vehicle shipping solutions.
  • Dealer and Auction Transport: Reliable transportation for dealerships and auction houses.
  • Snowbird Transport: Catering to seasonal travel needs, ensuring your vehicle is where you need it, when you need it.
  • Heavy Equipment/Commercial Vehicles: We ship buses, construction equipment, boats, RVs, 18-wheelers, and much more.

We’re committed to meeting your diverse car shipping requirements with precision and care.

Door-to-door car transport is the full-service delivery of your vehicle where our drivers take it directly from its current location to the door at your desired destination whenever it’s possible. Our drivers do their utmost to get as close as physically and legally possible to the pickup and delivery locations, but there may be external factors beyond our control that prevent us from getting to your door. For the safety of your vehicle and our drivers, we need a hazard-free route to get to your car. If there aren’t any nearby large parking lots or shopping centers, consider meeting us at a location where our driver will have enough space to load/unload safely. However, if there are any transportation restrictions or safety concerns, the carrier will collaborate with you to arrange a convenient pickup and delivery location.

The main difference between open and enclosed transport lies in the level of protection and exposure your vehicle receives during shipping.

  • Open Transport: This is the more common and cost-effective option. Vehicles are loaded onto an open trailer, exposed to the elements and road debris. While it’s a safe method, your vehicle will be visible and may be subject to weather conditions.
  • Enclosed Transport: This premium option provides enhanced protection. Vehicles are transported in an enclosed trailer, shielding them from weather, debris, and potential damage. This method is ideal for high-value, classic, luxury cars, or vehicles with sentimental value.

The choice depends on your vehicle’s value, your preference for protection, and your budget. Both methods are handled with care, ensuring your vehicle arrives at its destination safely.

Yes, we can ship vehicles that are non-running or inoperable. When shipping an inoperable car, a special auto carrier is required that uses a winch to connect to your car and pull it onto the carrier slowly and safely. There is an additional fee for inoperable vehicles because of the extra work involved with securing the vehicle on the transporter.

We have different options to suit your needs. For most cars, we recommend using an open trailer. This is the same method used to transport new cars from factories to dealerships and is the most budget-friendly choice. However, if you have a special or valuable car like an exotic, collectible, or antique vehicle, we suggest using an enclosed trailer for added protection. If you’ve already booked your shipment and have payment-related questions, please call us at (800) 821-0490. To avoid any confusion, it’s recommended to confirm all payment details with a shipping advisor before the delivery date. Your convenience and smooth transaction are our priorities.

You can use major debit and credit cards like Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and American Express for the initial payment. For the remaining balance on the day of delivery, you can pay with cash or a certified check made out to the carrier, which is the most cost-effective choice.

We only accept the initial deposit by credit or debit card and then settle the remaining balance in cash or money order upon safe delivery. This flexible payment approach offers you convenience and choice throughout the process. If you would like to pay your entire transportation cost using a credit card, give us a call at (800) 821-0490 so we can properly accommodate your situation.

The initial payment varies based on the distance your vehicle needs to be transported. There’s no payment required when you book the service. To get the specific initial payment amount for your transport, please reach out to our auto transport experts at (800) 821-0490. They’ll provide you with more details.

Refunds are determined by the status of your order. You can cancel your booking at any time before your vehicle is picked up. If you cancel before a carrier is assigned, there will not be any charges. However, if you cancel after a carrier has been assigned, you will only be charged the initial payment amount.

Yes, you can. Your Landry Transportation shipment allows for up to 100 pounds of personal items or household goods. These should be stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line in your vehicle ensuring they don’t obstruct the driver’s view or interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle. However, if you’re shipping to or from a port, your vehicle should be completely empty of all items. Please note that Landry Transportation and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for any personal items left inside the vehicle during transport. Personal items will not be covered by our insurance. We don’t recommend putting any valuables in your vehicle while in transport. Only your vehicle is insured during transport, not anything that is inside your vehicle.

Yes, it’s essential that either you or a trusted adult is present for both the pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This person has an important role in the shipping process, which includes documenting the vehicle’s condition and signing the Bill of Lading. This document serves as a receipt confirming the vehicle’s condition during transportation.

Please take out your E-ZPass or any other automatic toll collection device from your vehicle completely. You can either mail it to your destination or keep it with you. If you leave it in your vehicle while it’s being transported, automated toll systems may register toll fees as if you were driving the vehicle. Landry Transportation Company won’t be responsible for these toll charges, which can be easily avoided by removing the device.

Absolutely, you have the flexibility to modify your First Available Pick-up Date. You can do so through various means such as phone at (800) 821-0490, or email, both before and after booking. If you wish to alter the pick-up date before booking, simply generate a new quote specifying your preferred date. For changes post-booking, kindly reach out to us directly. However, please be aware that if you make changes to your First Available Pick-up Date after a carrier has been assigned, your deposit may become non-refundable if the assigned carrier is unable to accommodate the change. Your convenience and satisfaction remain our priority.

The driver will attempt to bring the car trailer as near to your home as is lawfully and safely possible. In most situations, the driver will be able to pick up and deliver straight to your doorstep. Some cities may have rules on big trucks that ban them from driving into residential neighborhoods. Because auto transport trucks are large and need a lot of room to turn around, if access to the pickup or delivery spot is limited by narrow streets, low-hanging trees, or tight turns, the driver may request that you meet at a site with a big parking lot, such as a grocery store nearby. However, if there are any transportation restrictions or safety concerns, the carrier will collaborate with you to arrange a convenient pickup and delivery location.

Yes. Typically, it will cost an extra $100-200 to cover the permit fees for picking up or dropping off a vehicle from a port.

Most auto transport trucks are notably large, spanning up to 75 feet in length. This size can pose challenges in navigating through numerous residential areas. Should any access issues arise during your vehicle’s transportation, rest assured that your carrier will make diligent efforts to approach the drop-off point as closely as feasible.

Moreover, we offer the flexibility to arrange a convenient rendezvous spot, like a shopping mall, for either the collection or delivery of your vehicle. This option ensures ease and accessibility, ensuring a smooth and accommodating experience throughout the transport process.

Yes, we can provide a guaranteed pickup date(s). All you have to do now is decide if you need the vehicle picked up by a specific date or on a specific date, which will determine the extra cost involved in guaranteeing your deadline. If you require a special pickup date(s), please contact us for a personalized quote.

However, it’s essential to note that while we can guarantee pickup dates, the automobile transport industry refrains from promising exact delivery dates. The unpredictability of road conditions and unforeseen circumstances is inherent, making it unfeasible to assure precise delivery timelines.

The bill of lading holds significant importance within the car transportation process. It plays a vital role by documenting any pre-existing vehicle damage upon pickup. Additionally, it acts as a repository for your contact details and serves as the formal agreement for transport. Should you need to file an insurance claim for your shipment, the Bill of Lading becomes essential.

Furthermore, the Bill of Lading acts as a transaction receipt. Although the vehicle’s owner or the booking customer isn’t necessarily required to be present at pickup or delivery to sign it, we strongly advise that someone aged eighteen or older signs it. This precaution is crucial due to the document’s legal significance in the context of our business transactions.

We’ll send you a ‘dispatch notification’ via text and email, including the expected pick-up/loading date and the driver’s name and phone number once your vehicle has been assigned for transport. Typically, the driver will contact you 24 hours before pickup and delivery of their arrival to let you know the estimated time they’ll reach your chosen location. If needed, we can also make special arrangements upon request.

The time it takes to transport your vehicle varies. It depends on the distance it needs to travel, the time of year, and the specific route. Auto shipments can be as quick as a day or two, or it might take a few weeks. Sometimes, severe weather and challenging road conditions can affect delivery schedules. For a personalized quote based on your pickup and delivery dates and locations, please contact our auto shipping experts at (800) 821-0490. They can provide you with more accurate information.

Absolutely. You can reach out to our auto shipping experts at any point during the shipping process to get updates on your vehicle’s location and estimated arrival time. You will also be provided with the driver’s contact so at any time you can reach out for an ETA.

When it’s time to pay the outstanding balance to the carrier upon delivery, you have three options:

  • Cash, Certified Check, or Money order: You can pay the carrier in cash, certified check or money order made payable to the carrier company.

Some of our carriers are able to take credit cards, Zelle, CashApp; just let your shipping agent know beforehand so we can arrange for any of those payment options with the driver. If you’ve already booked your shipment and have payment-related questions, please call us at (800) 821-0490. To avoid any confusion, it’s recommended to confirm all payment details with a shipping advisor before the delivery date. Your convenience and smooth transaction are our priorities.

  • Delivery Contact: The driver will arrange the drop-off with the person you’ve designated as the delivery contact. This should be you or someone you trust who’s at least 18 years old.
  • Inspection: It’s crucial to carefully inspect the vehicle when it’s delivered. This helps accurately record its condition on the Bill of Lading, which is like a receipt for the vehicle’s condition.
  • Payment: Make sure you have the payment for the carrier ready. Typically, you should be prepared to pay the driver with cash, certified check, or money order made out to the carrier company unless you’ve made other arrangements. If you have any questions, our auto transport experts are here to assist. For ongoing shipments, you can call us at (800) 821-0490.

The total amount provided by Landry Transportation Company for your transport covers everything, and tips are not required. However, if you believe that the carrier provided exceptional service, it’s entirely up to you whether you want to give a tip as a gesture of appreciation.

It’s important to note that any damage resulting from personal items would not fall under the coverage of the carrier’s cargo insurance policy. When you choose to transport personal belongings along with your vehicle, you assume the associated risk. To ensure the safety of your vehicle and its contents, we highly recommend carefully packing and securing personal items within the trunk or rear cargo area of the vehicle. This proactive approach significantly reduces the likelihood of damage to your car during transport.

No, all we need are the keys and the vehicle(s).

At Landry Transportation Company, we specialize in shipping all types of vehicles including but not limited to sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, minivans, oversized vehicles, antique cars, classic cars, motorcycles, ATV/UTV, construction vehicles, farm equipment, and much more. Yes, however, any vehicle with a clearance of fewer than 4 inches will almost certainly need to be transported on an enclosed trailer with a liftgate. Low-clearance cars can’t be loaded onto an open trailer because the vehicle would bottom out while being loaded.

Yes, even if your vehicle is oversized or modified, we can still ship it. Our network of specialized carriers nationwide allows us to accommodate vehicles of any size. However, since pricing is based on the dimensions of the vehicle, you will need to call for a quote. The online quote calculator cannot generate an accurate quote because it uses standard and unmodified vehicle sizes and specifications.

Make sure your vehicle has been cleaned thoroughly inside and out, so the trucker can do a thorough examination of any existing scratches or dings. Also, make sure there aren’t any more personal belongings in the vehicle unless you intend to include them (remember those items must total less than 100 pounds combined and be kept in the trunk or back seat below the window line of the vehicle). Remove all loose components attached to the body, any non-permanent luggage, bike, or ski racks. Be sure to inform the driver of any special circumstances concerning the vehicle.

Remove all antennas and loose parts, toll tags, and parking passes. Make sure the battery is fully charged. The vehicle is clean and there are no personal items (other than those discussed)

Yes, you can. Your Landry Transportation shipment allows for up to 100 pounds of personal items or household goods. These should be stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line in your vehicle ensuring they don’t obstruct the driver’s view or interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle.
